Changing Lives in South Africa… With Skateboards?
In Durban, South Africa, skateboarding is changing the lives of kids of all ages.
Created in 2001 by professional skateboarder Dallas Oberholzer, Indigo Skate Camp gets kids in the Zulu Village more involved in their community. By attending, the participants learn various life lessons and get to share their love for skateboarding. Let’s discover how this camp may change their futures!
Why It Matters
This story is a perfect example of how one seemingly small idea can alter the lives of many. By participating in this skate camp, these kids are learning about safe ways to play and they are learning about perseverance, community, and respecting and supporting others. Camps like these around the world can be so beneficial to local kids and it can give them hope for the future as well as a fun way to play.
