Exploring the Salween River Before It’s Too Late

Ever Widening Circles

There isn’t a better way to get people to care about something than to have them experience it.

When Travis Winn went to the Tibet region of China, he noticed that few people had experienced the beautiful Salween River flowing through their own backyards. With the threat of a dam being built on the river, experiencing this natural wonder would be lost to future generations.

So, Travis and the program Last Descents have been helping people get on the river and experience it in its natural state before it’s too late. This beautiful piece from NRS Films shows us what he’s doing and how it is affecting the people who visit!

Why It Matters

It’s important to notice what Travis says about the children he works with. Soon, they’ll become the leaders in the world. Even if this river doesn’t make it, these young people will have experienced what rivers have to offer. The more experiences we offer youth, the more informed they’ll be to make choices for us all in the future.

Visionaries like Travis Winn are important. We need thought leaders working to connect people to the natural world. Without them, who will raise a new generation of people working to protect it?

Let's Talk About It
  1. What unique places are in your backyard that you haven’t explored yet?
  2. Why is it important to educate young people about their environment?
  3. What are some of the way youth can make a difference in preserving the natural world?
