Helping the Blind See With Their Tongues

Ever Widening Circles

What if we told you there are new innovations that can help the 285 million people around the world living with a visual impairment move around with a little more ease?

There’s an increasing number of sensory-substitution devices being developed that take in visual information from the environment and translate it into forms of physical touch or sound in order to be interpreted by the user as vision.

BrainPort V100 is one of these devices and it enables people to see with their tongues! Here’s the story of one user…

Why It Matters

Technology, at its core, is developed to add something to our lives; to break down our barriers, provide ease, increase efficiency, and shine light into the dark spaces.

But this progress only happens if we’re all talking about the fantastic advances being made in technology, and finding ways to make them easily accessible for everybody who wants to use them!

Let's Talk About It
  1. What are the benefits of this device?
  2. How does this device work?
  3. What other pieces of technology are helping people navigate the world?
