What Teeth Tell Us About Ancient Humans

Ever Widening Circles

Did you know that ancient teeth are some of the best ways to study human history?

Our teeth carry information about where we grew up, who are ancestors are, and our ancient past. There are a lot of old teeth out there and they tell us a lot. For a closer look at some of the ways ancient teeth help us uncover the mysteries of the past, here is a great video from SciFri!

Why It Matters

There is still a lot to learn about ancient human-like species, and bones and relics like teeth help us learn more about our past ancestors. By studying these artifacts, we discover more about our ancestors eating habits, their lifespan, how they may have looked, and how their lives were similar to our own.

It is fascinating to see how much we can learn by just looking at a simple tooth! The collaborations of archeologists, scientists, and even artists lets us uncover mysteries about our own origins.

Let's Talk About It
  1. What kinds of things involving ancient human-like species would you like to know more about?
  2. What do you think your teeth say about you?
  3. If you could ask Professor Bailey one question about studying teeth, what would it be?

SciFri

Covering the outer reaches of space to the tiniest microbes in our bodies, Science Friday is the source for entertaining and educational stories about science, technology, and other cool stuff.
