The Creature that Doesn’t Die?

Ever Widening Circles

If there’s one thing we can all depend on, it’s that everything dies, right? Well, what if we told you there was a creature that appears to live forever.

Meet the hydra; a tiny organism that has, somehow, been able to figure out how to outsmart death! Studying these strange little creatures may lead to discoveries that could help us live longer too. To learn more about the hydra and their extraordinary lives we have a great video from NPR’s YouTube Channel, Skunk Bear.

Why It Matters

How many other remarkable organisms are out there that we know almost nothing about? If you remain curious about this world, it is truly filled with endless wonder. Daily, we learn more and more about the world around us. The more we know about the little things in this world and choose to celebrate them, the more informed and empowered we can feel in the world.

From microorganisms to the ancient giants that once roamed this planet, the potential for learning and discovery is endless. Perhaps we should celebrate that a little more often.

Let's Talk About It
  1. Other than elephants and hydras, do you know any other animals that live a long time?
  2. What other animal life cycles are you curious about?
  3. What scientific questions do you think the learning more about the hydra could help us solve?
