Tesla Coils Make Music With Lightning

Ever Widening Circles

What would it be like to be electrocuted by music?

ArcAttack is using Tesla coils to turn bolts of purple lightning into music. As crazy as this sounds, it’s true! Tesla coils use something called “resonance” to send jagged shafts of electricity through thin air. With careful programming, these can be used to play electrifying music.

Take a look at this video to see how it works!

Why It Matters

ArcAttack is demonstrating how art and science can work together to make something amazing.

Their work helps us realize interconnected music and physics really are.

These kinds of creative collaborations are important because they help to inspire our senses of wonder and curiosity. Perhaps helping us find passions for subjects we didn’t know we had!

Let's Talk About It
  1. What are some of the scientific concepts ArcAttack uses to make its music?
  2. Is ArcAttack making music even though they don’t use traditional musical instruments?
  3. Can you think of other ways that art and science can be combined?

It’s Okay To Be Smart
