Solutions from the Spinach King

Ever Widening Circles

What if, more often, we saw problems in our communities and took matters into our own hands to fix them?

Innovation happens when we see a problem, know the hardships involved in making it a reality, and press on anyway! For Lufefe Nomjana, the “Spinach King”, seeing a need in the community and innovating a solution has become his passion!

He’s bringing his community back to its roots by sowing seeds that grow into food that keeps the community healthy and strong. His business, Spinach King, thrives on bringing healthy, nutritious food to his community.

Here he is with Great Big Story, talking about the origins of his idea, and its impact on those around him.

Why It Matters

Nomjana’s work reminds us that local solutions are the starting point for solving some of the planet’s biggest problems. Whether we are tackling hunger, nutrition, or sustainability we have to start somewhere. Often it’s the local movements that make the most difference for people.

Local solutions are important because they use regional knowledge and culture to make a meaningful impact. When we encourage people to make differences in small ways we create larger ripple effects that have a can have a global impact.

What can you do to make your community thrive?

Let's Talk About It
  1. What is a problem your community faces?
  2. Who is in charge of finding solutions to those problems?
  3. What knowledge or skills do you have that could help solve the problem you thought of in the first question?

Great Big Story
